Your smile is one of your best assets, so it’s important that you do what you can to protect it. Before you step out on the field, course, court, or track, be sure you have the best teeth protection available. View a dental mouthguard as an insurance policy for your smile. It’s a small cost upfront to protect you from a crisis.
In any sport, even those that are not traditionally thought of as contact sports, there is a risk of damage to your teeth. It doesn’t take much more than an elbow or a loose ball to do a large amount of damage to your smile. With a custom mouthguard, there’s no worry!
Here at Vail Valley Dental Care, Dr. Maloley can create a mouthguard that fits your smile perfectly to avoid and prevent restorative dentistry in case of accidents. He will take impressions and get to work to give you excellent mouth protection. You can spend your time thinking about your next move instead of worrying about damaging your teeth.
Dental Cleanings & Exams
On your first visit to Vail Valley Dental Care, you will tour our welcoming office in Avon, CO and meet our friendly staff, including our highly trained hygienists. If necessary, we’ll take your X-rays. Otherwise, your examination will consist of gum measurement, DIAGNOdent cavity detection, and VELscope cancer screening. After your examination, we will consult with you about our recommendations and your concerns, and come up with a treatment plan based on both.
Before you leave, you will receive a thorough dental cleaning. We use our professional dental equipment to brush your teeth, clean and floss those hard-to-reach places, and buff and polish your smile.
Due to the high altitude of Avon, CO, dry mouth is a common problem around here. Dry mouth is more than annoying, it is dangerous for your oral health. You need saliva to keep your mouth clean and to fight off the bacteria that cause tooth decay. In other words, a high rate of dry mouth means a high rate of cavities. So here at Vail Valley Dental, we use Oxyfresh and CariFree toothpastes and rinses to help you prevent dry mouth and protect your oral health.
Bad Breath Treatment & Saliva Testing
Similar to dry mouth, bad breath can be more than a simple nuisance. It can be the sign of a serious health issue. If you are experiencing persistent bad and nothing seems to help, come into our office for saliva testing and we will get to the root of your halitosis problem. Usually, bad breath is the result of poor oral hygiene, but in some cases special toothpastes and rinses may be necessary to treat the problem.
Gum Disease Treatment
Root Scaling and Planing
Besides scraping away plaque and tartar from the visible portions of the tooth, your dentist will use special instruments to remove bacteria from the tooth roots or the part of the tooth beneath the gums. The surfaces of the roots will be smoothed out to prevent bacteria from making a home in the pits and crevices.
Your Avon dentist may prescribe antibiotics as needed to control bacteria and prevent infection. Antibiotics can be applied directly on the gums, taken as pills, or used as mouthwash. Antibiotics such as Arestin can also be inserted into deep gum pockets for treating periodontal disease.
Pocket Reduction Surgery
Pocket reduction surgery is recommended if the gum pockets cannot be reduced by antibiotics or professional cleaning. Dr. Maloley will lift the gums up, remove tartar, and reposition the gums so that they fit snugly around the teeth.
Laser Gum Reshaping
Receding gums can be corrected using laser gum reshaping or contouring. Laser gently reshapes the gums so they cover the exposed root of the tooth.
